Trial and Error

I’ve been doing really well at eating small portions and consuming less than 1200 calories per day, however I only lost about one pound. I stated in a previous blog that I need to drink more water. I STILL need to drink more water. I heard that per day, you need to drink half your body weight in water. Embarrassingly, I drink probably 24 oz. of it a day. It’s not that I don’t like it...it’s just that I HATE peeing 157 times a day. Since that’s a major factor that adds to weight loss, I learned that an area in which I need to improve upon in reaching my goal, is to drink lots of h20 , going from 24oz per day to 70oz per day (which is equivalent to about four and a half 16oz water bottles). Another thing I changed about my daily routine is moving around more at work. I have a desk job, and work 8:30-5 every Monday through Friday as a Recruiter/Human Resources Professional. I’m always sitting down in front of the computer and am never really active at work. I always eat at my desk and never really take a lunch break, other than running an errand when needed. (I work right by a mall so it’s somewhat better I stay in!). I decided that I need to move and circulate my body every now and then, so I’m going to take a lunch break and go for a brisk walk outside, or through the office building, up and down the stairs. A little extra exercise throughout the day as well as a little time to clear the mind could definitely help! Other than that, I feel good and I feel that my calorie counting and exercising at night are really helping me out a lot. It’s all about trial and error. If you notice a glitch in your workout routines, or daily food intake, then change something until its working better for you and you see desired results. If you find yourself hungry during the day, add or replace something with some protein to make you fuller. If that works, then stick with it. It’s all really common sense, but if you’re like me, these little bits of advice are a real pick me up.

Since I found what my glitch is, I was browsing on Pinterest (boy, do I love that app!) and came across a recipe for water. Yes. A recipe for water. I made it last night, and am currently enjoying it as I type this blog. It’s quite delicious, rather than boring old plain water. I also bought two, 28oz water bottles at Target (got them on sale!. Score!), and filled them up this morning for the day. Trying to get myself into this new routine and have at least 56 oz of water for work, and the rest at dinner/throughout the night.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 liters of ice cold water
  • 1 Cucumber, de-skinned and sliced
  • 1 Lemon or Lime
  • Handful of fresh mint leaves

Directions:

  • Skin your cucumber and slice it into thin pieces as well as cut your lemon or lime into medium size wedges. Put them into a jug/pitcher.
  • Add the mint to the pitcher.
  • Pour in 2 liters of cold water, and let it sit in the fridge overnight so it steeps and infuses the water.

Cucumber: The cucumber helps water retention, as well as some anti-inflammatory issues

Lemon or Lime: Lemon and lime are natural detoxes. The citric acid cleanses the digestive system.

Mint: The mint helps the body digest easier and also helps with any stomach cramps you may have.

I also read that you can add watermelon or orange. The watermelon helps the body flush out toxins because it contains organic compounds. The orange contains compounds in the peels that reduce cholesterol levels and helps the immune system, fighting pests/fungi.

Oh the wonders of fruits and veggies!
